Summary

Create a list of 10 words that tells something about yourself. For each word, create a list of 10+ additional words that describe that word.

We'll create a single webpage that displays these words using <br>, <a>, or &nbsp;. We won't use any other styling of any kind, no color, font changes, etc. Focus on the spatial arrange of the words to create a composition playing with specificity, abstraction, repetition, and rhythm in language.

Exercise

Step 1 (Due Thursday Jan 30)

Create a folder named 'list-poetry' in your 'Sites/interactive-1', then create 'words.txt'. Collect and create lists of your words.

Step 2 (Due Thursday Jan 30)

Find sources of inspiration for this sort of text art (be sure to check out the references below) and create 3 different sketches of ideas for how you might arrange you words.

Think about the meaning of your words, why are certain words grouped together or not, should that affect their presentation? Are you trying to explain these words or use them as material to make a composition. What other typographic elements other than the words might enchance your composition?.

Step 3 (Due Monday Feb 3)

Select one of your sketches and build it as a html file named 'index.html' in your 'list-poetry' folder we setup in class.
